Welcome to Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center
Dream Catchers is located on 22 acres of beautiful land in Williamsburg, Virginia; a peaceful setting for therapeutic riding and other horse-related activities.
Children and adults with special needs participate in horse-related activities in a safe and caring environment. Our instructors are nationally-certified by NARHA. Our volunteers receive ongoing training to uphold safe and enjoyable experiences for our riders. The unique sights, sounds and smells of the farm offer a refreshing setting for experiential learning. Our facilities include a 20 stall barn, indoor and outdoor riding arenas and riding trails, including a special sensory trail.
At Dream Catchers, the horses help people with special needs make the most of their abilities. Anecdotally we see muscles strengthening, flexibility increasing, and increases in balance and coordination. The ability to focus, follow directions, problem solve, and learn new skills seem to show improvement in people with conditions such as: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Down syndrome, Cognitive Impairment, and Autism. A number of non-verbal students have begun to speak through their association with Dream Catchers. Several of these students have autism. The first word for several students has been the name of their horse! This phenomenon is currently the focus of a research investigation at Dream Catchers involving non-verbal children with Autism.
Dream Catchers is a place where our students experience joy and freedom on the back of a horse!
Our Mission
Dream Catchers at the Cori Sikich Therapeutic Riding Center Provides therapeutic riding and other horse-related activities to special needs individuals in a caring and safe environment.
“Never thank yourself; always thank the horses for the happiness and joy we experience through them”
