Therapeutic riding provides people with physical, mental and psychological challenges an opportunity to use equine activities—adapted and individualized for them—as a form of recreation, physical therapy, socialization, and leisure.

For riders with physical disabilities, the horse’s motion closely replicates the human walk as they are astride the horse’s back. This motion can improve the rider's flexibility, balance, and muscle strength.

For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience, and self-esteem - qualities we all need in life.

The emphasis of Dream Catcher's programs is to provide an enjoyable and relaxing experience that promotes therapeutic benefits in the areas of socialization, posture, mobility and an overall improved quality of life.

We encourage our riders to participate in horse-related activities to their maximum ability and strive to provide them a safe atmosphere, which includes support, structure, and socialization.

Each participant in the program is evaluated upon referral and an individualized lesson plan is then created. Throughout an eight-week session, skills are developed which address each child’s specific challenges in areas such as balance, posture, strength, mobility, sensory comfort and fine motor skills functioning. At the end of a session, program participants demonstrate concrete progress towards their delineated goals as well as experience the psychological and emotional benefits afforded by inclusion in active, social recreation.

Much of the life experience of a special needs individual consists of being told that they can’t. At DreamCatchers, our riders, while sitting atop a therapeutic horse, find that they CAN!
