Ed Hawfield

President

Following degrees from NC State and U. VA, Ed spent his 35-year professional career primarily in the health care products industry with stints at Baxter, Abbott Laboratories, Allegiance Healthcare, Cardinal Healthcare and Hospira.  Outside the work environment, Ed spent 10 years with the United Way of Lake Forest (IL) and 15 years teaching in the executive MBA program at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.  Ed and his wife Nancy both retired to Williamsburg in 2007 from the Chicago area.  Ed’s hobbies and interests include annual scuba diving trips, family genealogy, local continuing education classes, and volunteering at Dream Catchers.

Patty Holt

Vice President

Patty Holt graduated from Marshall University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education/Special Education. She taught Special Education (grades 7 – 9) in a cross-categorical resource room in WV and NC for 6 years. After leaving public education, she was employed as a US Airways flight attendant for 4 years.  She then became an Emergency Inflight Training Instructor for US Airways and continued in that position for 6 years. Currently, she is employed by MedAire/International SOS as an International Commercial Aviation Instructor.  Patty served as a Board Member of the Richmond SPCA from 2001-2008, served as Vice President of the Board from 2002-2005 and was an Executive Board Member from 2002-2007. Patty and her husband, John, reside in Richmond and White Stone, VA.  Most recently, Patty served as Committee Chair on the Bridles & Bow Ties committee at Dream Catchers.

Fred Malvin

Treasurer

Mr. Fred Malvin, a retired Naval Officer, commanded two naval facilities and logged over 5000 flight hours during his first career.  He earned his undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary and Masters Degrees from George Washington University and the Naval War College.  He attended graduate school at American University and completed Master of Taxation courses at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law.
Frederick B. Malvin, CPA of Malvin, Riggins & Co. PC was selected a winner in the small business consulting category of the “Super CPA” contest in Virginia Business magazine identifies over 300 “best of the best” of the CPA profession.  In its ninth year, Virginia Business partnered with the Virginia Society of CPAs to develop this special program to highlight Virginia’s top certified public accountants for their important contributions to the CPA profession and the prosperity of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
He is past President of the Virginia Peninsula Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as Past Chairman of the Club’s Foundation.  He is Past Chairman of the Peninsula Drug Rehabilitation Services and the Friends of the Homeless.  He serves on the Boards of the William and Mary Tribe Club, the Muscarelle Museum of Art and is Past Chair of the William and Mary Olde Guarde Council, Past Treasurer of the William and Mary Alumni Society (Williamsburg Chapter), and is Past Treasurer of the St. Stephen Episcopal Church Foundation, and is a member of the Order of the White Jacket and the Quarterback Club.  He is currently treasurer of American Legion Post 39, Dream Catchers and the Virginia Peninsula Military Officers Association.  Fred is married to the former Donna Wright; they live in Kingsmill, Williamsburg.

* Karen is a former Board President

Karen has been a resident of Williamsburg since 1976.  She is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. Degree in Public Health Dental Hygiene.  Her husband Thomas is a radiologist at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.  Among the organizations that she has held leadership roles in the past are the Parent Teacher Associations of Rawls Byrd Elementary School, James Blair Middle School, and Lafayette High School, the Williamsburg-James City County School Board and the Board of Directors of Hospice Support Care of Williamsburg.  Her present community affiliations include the United Way of Greater Williamsburg: past Campaign Chair and Board President, presently Chair of Leadership Gifts; the Williamsburg Community Foundation, Vice Chair, Board of Directors; the Williamsburg Botanical Garden Chairman, Board of Directors; The Garden Club of Virginia Development Committee; and the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation Development Committee. Karen is a member and past president of The Williamsburg Garden Club, The Williamsburg Area Council of Garden Clubs and The Williamsburg-James City County Medical Society Alliance.  Karen’s hobbies are volunteer work, reading, Pilates and bowling.

Sue-Ellen Fitzpatrick

Board Member

Sue-Ellen is married, with three children and six grandchildren.  She has been District Commissioner of The United States Pony Club in Woodland Hills, CA where she worked and trained with Hilda Gurney, America’s Medalist Dressage Olympian.  As a competitor, Sue-Ellen has collected many blue ribbons and best of shows.  In business, she has been an agent for Northwest Mutual, HMO Marketing Manager for Blue Cross Southern California and a volunteer with the United Nations in New York as well as for the Theater Guild and Public Television.  At Dream Catchers, Sue-Ellen is a PATH certified riding instructor and volunteer.  She studied at University of Toronto, Pierce College in Los Angeles and graduated from Redlands University.  Her academics continue with William & Mary’s Christopher Wren program.

Wade L. Johnson, MD

Sandy Ward, Ph.D.

Board Member

Sandy has been a resident of Williamsburg for 20 years. She and her husband, Tom, have two children, Caroline and Patrick. Sandy is an alumna of the College of William and Mary. She earned her M.Ed. and Ph.D. in School Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She worked as a school psychologist in the public schools in central Pennsylvania for two years prior to joining the faculty at the College of William and Mary in 1989. Currently, she is a full professor and director of the School Psychology program at the College of William and Mary.  Sandy first became aware of Dream Catchers through her daughter, Caroline, who is an avid horse enthusiast and rides at Cedar Valley Farm. As a school psychologist Sandy is keenly aware of the educational, social, and emotional needs of children with disabilities and was thoroughly impressed with the resources that Dream Catchers offered to children and families.

Susan Sikich

Board Member

Susan has been married to John Sikich for 35 years, and they are the parents of Cori, Megan and Sara Sikich. Susan and her family reside in Chicago, IL and Delray Beach, FL.  She has a BA, Special Education from Illinois State University and is a retired special education teacher, recreational specialist and fitness instructor.  Susan is currently on the Delray Beach Education Board, and working on special events projects with the City of Delray Beach, FL and a private management company.
